Privacy Policy
The short version
No account is required to play. Progress is saved in your browser, while guesses are sent to our server for checking.
We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves at analytics.peekkit.com, to understand how the game is used. The script sets no cookies and does not create an identifier that follows you across other websites. It records the page URL and title, the referring URL, your browser's language and screen size, browser and device information, and a general location derived from your IP address.
The game actions we record are the first accepted guess, accepted guesses with their number and feedback direction, puzzle completion with the outcome and counts of guesses and displayed clues, copying a result for sharing, and opening a past puzzle from the archive. These events include the puzzle date; the first guess also includes a mobile or desktop category. We also record when the contact email address is copied. Event properties do not include the years you enter or puzzle answers. Where your browser provides an enabled Do Not Track preference, we configure Umami to stop analytics tracking.
What stays on your device
Your guesses are saved by puzzle date in your browser's localStorage. When you return, the game sends those saved guesses to the server to restore your feedback and result. Clearing this site's browser data removes your saved progress. Progress does not sync between browsers or devices. The game also saves a win or loss for each completed daily puzzle to calculate your current and longest streaks. These records stay in this browser and are removed when you clear site data. Small sessionStorage markers prevent duplicate game and archive events after a refresh in the same tab. They contain only puzzle dates, event positions and local navigation keys, and are not sent to analytics.
What is sent when you guess
Each submission sends the puzzle date and all guesses made so far for that puzzle, including the new guess. Streak records and counts are not included in this request. The server checks the guesses and returns feedback and the UTC date used for checking. Once the round is complete, it also returns the answer and background. The game does not write these guesses to a server database or log their contents in application code.
Hosting and contact messages
Our hosting provider is Cloudflare, which serves this site and runs its server-side code on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes connection information such as IP addresses and request metadata to deliver and protect the website and to prevent abuse. This is separate from the progress saved in your browser. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. If you email us, your email address and message are received so we can respond.
